The company was incorporated in 1906 to purchase and manage land for townsites and other purposes. It owned extensive townsite properties in northern North Dakota and also held lands in trust for the Great Northern in North Dakota, Montana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam.
